Africa’s Small 5
Elephant Shrew, Leopard Tortoise, Ant Lion. Only 3 of the 5 occur here.
Predators
Predators include – Cape mountain leopard, Black backed jackal, Caracal, Brown hyena, Honey badger including the Albino honey badger.
Birding
Some truly wonderful birds occur here and lots pass by over the changing seasons. Verreaux’s Eagles, Martial eagles, Kori Bustard and Bee-eaters.
What does Karoo mean?
The Karoo is best defined by its vegetation, which consists of assorted succulents and low scrub bushes spaced from one foot to several feet apart. The area is devoid of surface water, and its name is derived from the Khoisan word meaning “land of thirst”.
